Tax Credits and Rebates to Make Your HVAC Upgrade More Affordable

    Last updated 1 year ago

If you’re considering upgrading your home’s HVAC system, then there are a number of rebates and tax credits available for heating and air conditioning components. Applying for these benefits will help you get the HVAC system you’ve always wanted at a much more reasonable price. Here are some of the items that you can find tax credits and rebates for:

    1. Geothermal Heat Pumps
Geothermal heat pumps use heat energy from the earth to produce or remove heat from your home. This energy-efficient technology is great as a standalone system or for supplementing your current furnace or air conditioner. Qualifying geothermal heat pumps are eligible for a tax credit of up to 30% if installed on your principal or second home.

    2. Advanced Main Air Circulating Fan
The air circulating fan is a critical component of your air conditioning and heating systems, as it’s what pushes the heated or cooled air through your home’s air ducts. If your new advanced main air circulating fan uses no more than 2% of your furnace’s total energy consumption, then you may be eligible for a $50 tax credit.

    3. Furnaces
There are many different types of furnaces available, including natural gas-, propane-, and oil-powered furnaces. These three types of furnaces are far more energy-efficient than electrical furnaces and are eligible for a tax credit of $150 if they have an annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) rating of 95 or greater.

    4. Central Air Conditioning Systems
Central air conditioning systems are also available for a tax credit. Split systems must have a SEER of 16 or more and an EER of 13 or greater. Packaged systems must have a SEER and EER of 14 and 12, respectively. Keep in mind that the maximum tax credit for air conditioning systems is $300.

Benefits of Having Your Heater Checked Out Before Wintertime

    Last updated 1 year ago

With temperatures expected to dip into the low 40s over the next couple of months, it’s time to make sure that your home’s heater is ready to work. Preparing your furnace system for a chilly Jacksonville winter is best done by a professional air conditioning and heating technician that specializes in HVAC maintenance. But if your furnace worked fine last winter, then why should you have it checked out this year? Let’s take a look at why you should never gamble with your furnace before the heating season:

    1. Identify Potential Problems
Having your furnace inspected by a Jacksonville-area HVAC technician is a great way to identify and repair potential problems. Small issues such as a worn-out fan belt or a poorly-lubricated motor may not seem like a big deal at first, but can actually become fairly serious issues later on in the winter. Repairing these problems before you must completely rely on your furnace for comfort will help you stay comfortable throughout the heating season.

    2. Keep Your Home Safe
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, poorly-maintained furnaces can produce carbon monoxide, a deadly, odorless, colorless gas. Carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms are similar to the flu, but will not go away until carbon monoxide levels decrease—and prolonged exposure to carbon monoxide can lead to death.

    3. Avoid Mid-Winter Breakdowns
A serious furnace breakdown during the winter means that you’ll lose your furnace just when you need it the most. The wait for furnace repairs or inspections will be also much longer, since many other Jacksonville-area homeowners will also be noticing furnace problems. Keep in mind that larger repairs will cost much more than basic preventative maintenance will.

To stay healthy and comfortable this winter, make sure that your furnace is properly inspected and prepared for the heating season. Contact McGowan’s Heating and Air Conditioning at (904) 278-0339 for HVAC repair and maintenance services in the Jacksonville area.

Why Should You Get a Home Energy Assessment

Whether you’re blasting your AC or trying to warm up with your furnace, getting the most out of your home’s HVAC system is important—that’s why energy efficiency is key.

This video from the U.S. Department of Energy discusses the benefits of home energy assessments. You’ll learn how an energy assessment can help you identify potential inefficiencies throughout your home so you can make the necessary improvements to save money this winter.
